Giant Floor Pillows

Seriously... this fabric is just plain yummy! I know I have bragged before about the awesome discount upholstery fabric in my neck of the woods. The place is called U-Fab, and they really are... well, fabulous!

Which is exactly why I could not resist jumping on the giant-floor-pillow-bandwagon. These pillows are fun for BB, incorporate my color scheme into the living room, and are not overpowering.

They are pretty simple to make and they are a great stash-buster. In addition to the yummy fabric, I used unwanted fabric from my stash pile, unused blankets, an unused mattress pad and even an old quilted grocery cart cover.  Plus I had some leftover stuffing from the loveseat project.

Both pillows are made from two large squares and four rectangles. For the larger pillow, the squares were about 36". The smaller pillow was about 30".

I sewed the rectangles to one of the squares with the right sides facing.  

Next I sewed the other square to the rectangles with the right sides facing.  At this point I had an inside-out square with the side edges opened.



I sewed three of the edges closed. Then I stuffed all my stash-busters into the middle and tried to even it out. Last, I used the stuffing around the top, bottom and outer edges. I hand sewed the last side together.

I've had a lot of questions about the dimensions of the rectangles.  The rectangles on the large pillow are 7 inches. That is the finished measurement (without seam allowance). And the smaller one is 6 inches without seam allowance.  I used rather big seam allowances because I did not finish any of the edges.
